Free University of Bozen Bolzano

Represented at NOI Techpark with 3 faculties and around 100 researchers, technicians and students.

The Free University of Bozen Bolzano (unibz) is the only trilingual university in Italy and is one of the most important research institutions in South Tyrol. Founded in 1997, it has from its inception been concerned with questions about the environment, society, the economy and technological innovation. One focus of research is interdisciplinary cooperation and the interaction with local companies. To this end, unibz has set up the types of laboratory at NOI Techpark that can carry out research which is of relevance to companies. Around 100 researchers, technicians and students work here in nine laboratories in the technology fields of renewable energies and energy efficiency, food technologies and digitalisation.

In the Smart Data Factory, companies can work collaboratively with researchers from the Faculty of Computer Science to develop innovative solutions for capturing, processing and automating the smart analysis of complex, heterogeneous data. In the Food Labs, companies from the food sector can avail themselves of state-of-the-art equipment such as SHIME, a simulator of the microbial ecosystem of the gastrointestinal tract. The “green” laboratories are dedicated to the optimisation of energy production processes and the energy efficiency of buildings. The Centre for Family Business Management of the Faculty of Economics and Management is also located in the Technology Park. It conducts interdisciplinary research on the specific organisational goals, strategic processes, innovation, succession and financial results of family businesses.
