Hightech in the apple tree

How Plantvoice brings data into apple farming
Plants reveal stress very early on – what matters most is recognising the signs. That is where Plantvoice comes in: the start-up has developed technology that monitors the condition of apple trees in real time.
This is made possible by inserting a small sensor into the trunk. It measures sap and physiological changes in the tree, and the data is then analysed. Stress signals can thus be detected early, making it easier to use water, fertilisers and plant protection products in the most effective way.
Using data helps reduce the environmental impact and improve harvest quality. Together with Eurac Research and the Laimburg Research Centre, we are accompanying Plantvoice on this journey. With our support in networking and collaboration as well as R&D consulting, the start-up will soon be ready to produce the probe on a larger scale. The outcome is a valuable tool for agriculture – one that helps conserve important resources.
