We are NOI. South Tyrol's
innovation district.

Innovation, research, development. 1100 entrepreneurs, researchers, start-ups and students are working at NOI for an ecological and economic conversion of society. At NOI, research is practice-oriented. The needs of companies give rise to scientific work.
At NOI, we focus on four technology fields: Green, Food & Health, Digital, Automotive & Automation. We are rooted in South Tyrol and in South Tyrolean society. At the same time, we work with an international slant.
Using research profitably. This is what we want for you, your business idea and your company.

What does NOI Ltd. do?
An ever-growing community of currently around 1100 researchers, entrepreneurs, start-ups and students needs to be orchestrated: this is what NOI Ltd. is here for. We manage South Tyrol's innovation district, NOI Techpark, and develop it further. With a lot of networking and a wide range of services, we help to initiate R&D projects, promote new talents and start-ups and make local companies fit and competitive for the future. NOI means NATURE OF INNOVATION. We do it like nature.

NOI lives Nature of Innovation. We prefer solutions that offer a prospect of success. That is how nature has inspired us — so far it is the start-upper who has produced the most unicorns. In short, the world is pressing us with questions. We transform through needed innovation. Keeping what is good. Discarding what has become useless. Inventing what improves life chances. Adding what is missing. In one thing, we are ahead of nature. While nature evolves by trial & error, at NOI we improve through market analyses, timing and process methods. In this way, innovation is feasible and sustainable. Also, for small businesses.

An energy place for innovation. History proves that.

NOI is located where Alumix, Bolzano's aluminium plant, once was. At the peak of its production, the plant used to meet two-thirds of the national demand. And it consumed as much electricity as the whole of South Tyrol does today. It is a good place, then, to obtain energy from. For the development of South Tyrol.

1937

Commissioning of aluminium plant Bolzano1 (today A1)

1940

Completion of production line Bolzano2 (today A2)

1945

Minimal production due to shortage of raw matereiaals and reesstricted goods traffic

1950-1960

Peak production of 50,000 tons p.a.

1978

Closure of both production lines

1991

Sale of the plant to Alumix Ltd.

2004

Transformer buildings Bolzano1, Bolzano2 and the Water Tower were classified as historical monuments

2008

European Biennial for Contemporary Art “Manifesta 7” held in the former plant

2015

Start of construction work NOI Techpark

2017

Opening of NOI Techpark buildings A1, A2, A4

2019

Completion of buildings D1 and A3 (day care)

2021

Completion of building B5 (unibz labs)

2022

Completion of building A6 (Institute for Biomedicine)

2024

Completion of building B1 (Faculty of Engeneering) and buildings D2 – D3 (companies, laboratories)
