How to wire data, software, and hardware components data flows together with Node-RED

In this last Software Developers Thursday of 2022 Simone Tritini, a technician form the Center for Sensing Solutions of Eurac Reserach, demonstrates how to use NodeRed. Node-RED is a middleware to easily design and develop heterogenous source data flow of several types of data, devices, APIs or generic services. Good data flow management nowadays is crucial due to high number of devices producing data and the countless ways to store it.

We will be looking at two case studies to indicate the usefulness of the tool to develop fast prototypes and implement more complex applications to connect several components in a unique system:
• How an Internet of things application is connected in a unique process flow: in particular, how the data coming from the external devices sent to the MQTT broker is checked and processed by specific node and then stored in a database.
• How a simple web interface is implemented to grab different types of data sources (i.e. files), and then integrated to external database via API.

We will meet again at the space NOISE. Not sure where it is? Have a look here https://bit.ly/3zUDYFy, get in touch or ask at the Info Desk on the ground floor of the main building.
