Fortissimo transforms music into innovation

“Children shouldn’t study music with the aim of becoming incredible musicians. They should study it to learn how to listen, and therefore be listened to.” These were the words of Claudio Abbado, one of the greatest conductors of all time. This philosophy lies at the heart of Valeria Told’s start-up, Fortissimo, which aims to bring music into schools through the use of an interactive platform.
Told, director of the INDA Foundation (the Italian Institute for Ancient Drama) and director general of the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento for 10 years, launched her start-up here at NOI. Not only has she successfully transformed it into an innovative and powerful educational project, but it has also achieved recognition in Europe, securing almost €1.7 million in funding. This was partly thanks to support from our EU Opportunities team, who helped her with the Creative Europe application process and introduced her to a network of European partners through the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), of which we are a part.
Today, Fortissimo is supported by a consortium of 23 institutions from 14 European countries. The network aims to innovate the global market for music education programmes, investing in a sector that currently receives little attention but is highly promising.
“NOI shines a light on opportunities and puts them in the path of businesses and start-ups,” explains founder Valeria Told. “This is what happened with us, and it’s been a huge help.”
However, the journey doesn’t end there. The next goal is to complete the virtual concert hall: a digital amphitheatre offering a new way to experience (and learn from) music. It's an innovative experience that sees us working with Fortissimo once again to make music more inclusive and engaging.
