Dance goes digital

Landi's Cube explores a new way of creating movement
What happens when choreography isn't planned in advance, but takes shape in the moment? That's the idea behind Landi's Cube. This project by choreographer and researcher Margherita Landi, reimagines how dance is created in real time, giving dancers and choreographers an equal role in shaping what happens on stage. Drawing on Laban Cube, Rubik’s Cube and Twister, the project turns movement into digital information. A three-dimensional grid maps parts of the body to virtual points in space. Wearing virtual reality headsets, dancers receive precise coordinates and respond with their bodies, turning data into movement. The result offers a hands-on glimpse into how technology can reshape creative processes and open up new possibilities for choreography.
Bringing the project to life took expertise from different fields. Our team connected the worlds of culture and research, Fraunhofer Italia developed the technology, and Bolzano Danza shaped the artistic vision.
Together, these perspectives created something new where performance, research and technology meet.
