Beehive innovation from Alvus

The word 'Alvus' is Latin and means 'beehive'. This reflects the project that Christof Erckert and his team are working on at NOI perfectly: innovating the energy world by creating low-impact systems for biogas and biomethane production.

This challenge requires vision and commitment at many levels. With the backing of our Start-up Incubator and the EU Opportunities team, Alvus has developed and patented a design for reinforced earth digesters which guarantee 50% lower costs and 80% lower CO₂ emissions than traditional technologies. As a result, Alvus secured over €4 million in funding and won the prestigious European EIC Accelerator funding programme. Most biogas and biomethane systems use reinforced concrete or glass-coated steel digesters. However, reinforced earth is more cost-effective and environmentally friendly. 'At NOI, we found the perfect conditions to make all this a reality', explains Andrea Donini, Alvus's CTO. Giuseppe Franco, Head of EU Opportunities at NOI, confirms this. 'We worked with Alvus to access EIC funding, and thanks to our strong international network, we found partners and a coach who contributed to the project's success'. It's just like a beehive — a team effort.
