What the lab researches

Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (AI-Lab)

Developing practical applications using Artificial Intelligence

Research, experimentation, technology transfer and training in the field of AI and intelligent systems.

How does an idea become an Artificial Intelligence-based application? The AI-Lab at the Faculty of Engineering of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano combines scientific expertise with high-performance technological infrastructure to meet this challenge. This multidisciplinary laboratory is a centre dedicated to research, experimentation, training and the transfer of AI into real-world applications.

The AI-Lab supports companies, public institutions and other partners through consultancy, feasibility studies, knowledge transfer, and applied research projects. Its goal is to realistically assess the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence, develop and validate prototypes, and promote innovative solutions through a responsible, effective, and sustainable approach – in South Tyrol and beyond.

The laboratory features a multifunctional space equipped with advanced computing and storage infrastructure, where researchers, students and professionals can design, develop and test data-intensive applications. The AI-Lab also serves as a technology demonstration facility environment and a centre for practical training, designed to promote the development and adoption of Artificial Intelligence across a wide range of application domains.

Its areas of expertise cover machine learning, computer vision and data science to data management, data and process mining, knowledge representation and reasoning, logic-based methods, semantic technologies and high-performance computing. It provides the scientific and technological foundations for the development of innovative solutions based on AI.
