20 Years of Code Annotations: What I learned and What’s Next

Eduardo Guerra

They’re everywhere – in frameworks, APIs, and our daily coding lives. But how well do we actually understand code annotations?

In our October session, Eduardo Guerra shares insights from over two decades of working with annotations – from their early beginnings in code comments to their official introduction in Java back in 2005, and their evolution since. Drawing from years of academic research and hands-on development, Eduardo will guide us through the core concepts, design practices, and real-world implications of annotation usage.

We’ll take a closer look at how annotations impact code readability, productivity and coupling – and close the session with a discussion of the open problems that remain today and the directions future research and development might take.

If you work with frameworks, build your own, or simply want to write cleaner, more maintainable code – this Software Developers Thursday is one not to miss!

Here you can find various documents about the event. Have fun!
