The platform for digitalisation in agriculture
Sensors, robots, innovative methods for applying pesticides: the future of agriculture is digital.
Digital technologies and automation are becoming more and more prevalent in fruit growing and viticulture. To test and validate such technologies under real field conditions, two outdoor laboratories called LIDO – Laimburg Integrated Digital Orchard – have been set up at the Laimburg Research Centre: one in an existing vineyard with the Chardonnay variety, the other in a new apple orchard planted in 2022 with the Rosy Glow Pink Lady® variety and a robot-compatible Guyot training system.
Both fields are connected to electricity and fibre optic cable, and two containers directly on site serve as work and storage areas. A remote-controlled, permanently installed spraying system is available for the application of plant protection products. LIDO also has access to a database system in which data can be collected, managed and processed from a central point.
The two open-air laboratory areas are available for companies, research institutes and interested parties to test and demonstrate their products.
