Technology is changing our lives – and we’re all part of this development. That’s why it’s more important than ever for society to stay engaged, keep the conversations going and ask questions. With the NOI TECHTALKS, NOI Techpark and Eurac Research’s Center for Advanced Studies are launching a new event series that is open to everyone. It starts here: with open, equal dialogue between science and society. International experts and researchers from the NOI network will share insights into pioneering research that affects us all. Because technology never stands alone – it’s always part of something bigger.
The first edition, on 19 June, is dedicated to a highly relevant topic: “Trust in AI: Opening the Black Box”. Artificial intelligence (AI) is already shaping critical decisions across various fields. In medicine, it supports disease diagnosis and suggests treatment options; in education, it personalises curricula; in criminal justice, it helps with risk assessments; in transportation, it powers self-driving cars through complex environments. AI is transforming how we make decisions. And in the future, its influence could reach even further, from public policy to economic systems.
Yet, how exactly AI systems arrive at their results often remains unclear. Can we trust technologies we do not fully understand? And how can we ensure they are used fairly and responsibly? These questions will be explored by Brent Mittelstadt, Professor of Data Ethics at the University of Oxford, and Chiara Ghidini, Professor at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and Vice President of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA). Cynthia Wieringa from the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz will moderate the discussion.
Admission is free; however, we kindly ask that you register." target="_blank">https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=R_WstlLDCEenJewOZixdEfUBMlw-hk9Kpal62dZ7VjpUMktVWExINFRSTVBWM0ZQRDNOT0ZITTJEWi4u">register.
