Field Robotics Lab

With us, robots will improve by leaps and bounds.

Rugged robotics: we develop machines and robots for outdoor activities.

The FIRST Lab – the Field Robotics South Tyrol Lab – is the natural link between mechatronics research, industrial automation, agriculture and forestry. The team researches and develops mechatronics and mobile robotics applications for outdoor activities, i.e. in dynamic and unstructured environments.

Slopes, orchards, lakes and ice: huge potential for (semi-)autonomous machines and robots.

The scientists at the FIRST Lab conduct basic and applied research for outdoor applications. For example, the FIRST team is developing (semi-)autonomous machines and robots suited to typical South Tyrolean conditions: slopes, apple orchards, greenhouses, rivers, lakes, ice and snow. Technologies for monitoring, inspection and automation are being researched. Harvest and field trials are also being carried out. Precision farming is the future of agriculture; it makes farmers’ work safer and gives the planet a chance of survival.
