Heimat, plurale

Inspired by historical wall panels for primary schools, the artist Elisabeth Hölzl shows contemporary terms written in Gothic script on large construction fence tarpaulins. They are taken from tourist websites, social media and newspapers and encourage a critical examination of the “sellout” of the territory through overtourism. Various statements on the theme of “Heimat” – a German term for homeland, home, or place of origin – add a personal level to the installation. The tarpaulins are arranged in a zigzag pattern in the water basin of the NOI Techpark, opening up different perspectives. The reflection on the water suggests and visualises a fluid, multi-layered concept of “Heimat”.

The installation is part of “Konzept Heimat”, a joint exhibition project by the Heimatpflegeverband Südtirol, the Südtiroler Künstlerbund and the Granaio in Nomi.
