The Institute of Mummies Research is part of the Health Department of Eurac Research. One focus of our research is the investigation of the occurrence and evolution of diseases and the development of corresponding molecular biological methods that can be applied in the fields of medicine, nutritional science and bioarchaeology. We are also developing methods for the conservation and exhibition of finds of particular cultural interest (The Iceman - Ötzi). With the presented project we intend to develop a center of excellence for this research area within the NOI Techpark. A further goal is to promote education on a local and international level and to use our worldwide contacts with research institutions. This should also be an attraction for new intellectual forces within the province.
