The laboratory for the conservation of ancient human remains
We develop custom-made display cases for mummies and artefacts in museums, churches and warehouses.
In the Conservation Lab, we research and develop systems for mummy conservation. Our scientific teams mainly work on tailor-made display cases for the conservation and display of mummies and artefacts in museums, churches and storage facilities.
The main objective is to achieve an optimal balance of environmental and conservation conditions for the permanent preservation of mummies. Based on the work of this laboratory, Eurac Research's Institute for Mummy Research has already filed two patents: The first concerns a special wax that can be used to seal display cases and create an oxygen-free environment. The second patent is for a 'pressure compensator' that provides pressure equalisation inside the display case.
